1 Hotel & Homes, the luxury hotel brand led by nature, has appointed key members for its Melbourne-based leadership team, in preparation for the launch of the brand’s first Australian property, 1 Hotel & Homes Melbourne, slated to open March 2025. As a mission driven luxury lifestyle hotel brand inspired by nature, 1 Hotels, founded by industry visionary Barry Sternlicht, cultivates the best of sustainable design and architecture, together with extraordinary comfort and an unrivalled level of service.

Nestled along the banks of the city’s famous Yarra River, the luxury property will feature 277 guest rooms and 114 hotel-branded residences, several innovative dining options and a stunning lobby bar with breathtaking waterfront views.

Other luxurious amenities include Bamford Wellness Spa, an indoor pool, large function centre and access to 3,500-square-metre public parklands that hug the meandering riverfront.

To launch 1 Hotel & Homes in Melbourne, the global team has recruited top local and international talent, with the appointments of Hotel Manager, Director of Marketing and Director of Sales assembled from leading tourism and hospitality venues worldwide.

Johannes Brosemann will serve as Hotel Manager, whose appointment follows five years as Executive Assistant Manager at Brisbane’s renowned Calile Hotel — considered by Conde Nast Traveller as Australia’s leading boutique hotel. Prior to this, Brosemann held a long career in senior management positions at Hilton, including two years as Director of Operations for Hilton Munich Airport and key managerial roles at Hilton Hotel Brisbane.

Director of Marketing, Libby Escolme, brings a wealth of global experience, having lived and worked in five countries, in both global and local roles for prestige brands across: hotels, prop-tech, real estate, retail, services and FMCG sectors. This includes a notable role as Global Vice President of InterContinental Hotels Group, Upscale Portfolio in London. As a certified integrative nutritionist, Libby’s dedication to furthering her knowledge around health and how we can live better for longer with less impact on the planet, makes her appointment particularly aligned with 1 Hotel & Homes philosophy for cultivating luxurious experiences that support and enhance the wellness of its guests.

Elena Fragasso, joins 1 Hotel & Homes Melbourne as the property’s Director of Sales following a distinguished hospitality and sales career spanning 15-years with prestigious corporate and lifestyle brands. This includes a recent position as Director of Sales for the Park Hyatt Sydney, Sales Director for W-Union Square NY, USA; Director of Sales & Marketing for Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas, and two stints with Starwood Hotels & Resorts both in Sydney and Los Angeles.

“We’re immensely proud of the leadership team that we’ve assembled,” says 1 Hotel & Homes Melbourne Managing Director, Damon Page. “They’re a true representation of the core vision and values of 1 Hotels, and are all exceptional leaders known within the industry for their rich wealth of experience and ability to drive growth, cultivate creativity and build teams with integrity and empathy”.

More details on the opening of 1 Hotel & Homes Melbourne will become available as the property prepares to open in the Northbank precinct of the city, which is currently preparing for major development, including pedestrian walkways, retail, bars, and nightlife.

However, some details have been released, particularly highlighting the property’s biophilic design, which will include recycled and reclaimed timber from the site’s heritage wharf & shed as well as other local rail bridges and wharfs, places nature at the forefront, allowing guests, visitors, and residents to immerse themselves in the beauty of their surroundings.

The distinctly Melbournian vibe is inspired by Victoria’s landscape – The Dandenong Ranges, The Great Otway National Park and the Yarra River. From sustainable architecture to locally sourced materials, programming and partnerships, every aspect of the hotel is designed to create a harmonious connection between luxury and nature. 1 Hotel Melbourne is being developed in partnership with Riverlee and is part of the multi-purpose Northbank project, Seafarers.

Accor, Australia’s largest hotel operator, has reached a major milestone on its sustainability journey with the Sustainable Tourism Certification of its 100th hotel in Australia by Ecotourism Australia.

This milestone brings Accor closer to its goal of having 100% of its network across the Pacific region achieve Sustainable Tourism Certification by the end of 2025.

The 100 hotels, resorts and apartments from all states and territories across Australia (full list attached) have each demonstrated their strong commitment to environmental, socio-economic, cultural and responsible management principles, implementing global best-practice sustainable tourism standards to achieve certification.

“Just over a year after announcing our partnership with Ecotourism Australia, we have proudly reached the significant milestone of 100 Sustainable Tourism Certified hotels across the country, with Novotel Sydney City Centre being the landmark 100th certification,” said Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer PM&E, Adrian Williams. “This achievement underscores our commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism.

“Sustainable Tourism Certification not only enhances the competitiveness and attractiveness of our hotels but also boosts operational excellence and revenue generation. This achievement aligns perfectly with the expectations of today’s travellers and our corporate clients, who increasingly seek responsible options and prefer hotels with third-party sustainable certifications.

“We will continue to strive for excellence in sustainability and set new benchmarks for the industry.”

Of the 100 certified hotels, 30% are strategically located in the central business districts of Sydney and Melbourne, making them particularly well-suited to meet the sustainability and business needs of Accor’s corporate clientele.

Ecotourism Australia Chief Executive Officer Ms Elissa Keenan said the commitment by Accor was significant.

“Ecotourism Australia is proud to partner with Accor Pacific in support of its ambition to certify all Australian properties with our world-class Sustainable Tourism Certification.

“Achieving Certification is a rigorous process, involving over 200 key indicators across the four pillars of sustainability and strong business practices. It can take up to twelve months and includes an independent third-party audit before Certification is awarded. Hotels must demonstrate ongoing commitment, with periodic independent audits required to maintain Certification.

“Accor continues to demonstrate their industry leadership through commitment to authentic sustainability, drawing on Ecotourism Australia’s 30 years’ experience upholding globally recognised sustainable tourism standards.

“We are pleased to see Accor Pacific are making significant commitment to, and progress on achieving their goal to certify every hotel in the world and reaching this incredible milestone in our region.

“It has been remarkable witnessing each of the hundred properties take up the challenge and demonstrate spirited enthusiasm toward their certification, implementing a range of creative and impactful solutions to sustainability challenges.

“Ecotourism Australia looks forward to continuing to support Accor and its properties on their sustainability journey.”

From luxury to economy, Accor operates 19 international brands and over 400 hotels across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and French Polynesia, such as Sofitel, MGallery, Art Series, Pullman, Swissôtel, Mövenpick, Grand Mercure, Peppers, The Sebel, Mantra, Handwritten Collection, Novotel, TRIBE, Mercure, BreakFree, ibis, ibis Styles and ibis budget, as well as Ennismore’s SO/. Minor Hotels, a global hospitality leader with over 550 hotels, resorts and residences in 56 countries, has announced plans to launch its Avani Hotels & Resorts lifestyle brand in Singapore, marking the group’s entry into the country. Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027, the 13-storey upscale property aligns with Minor Hotels’ expansion strategy to strengthen its footprint in major global destinations.

To develop the 200-key hotel, Minor Hotels has partnered with Singapore’s Kajima Development and Abu Dhabi-based Alwathba Investment.

With a prime address at 24 Peck Seah Street, guests will find themselves in the heart of the bustling Tanjong Pagar district, within minutes’ walk to the Central Business District and Chinatown. The hotel is set to become part of the Historic District’s next chapter, offering both business and leisure guests a contemporary stay that blends the rich heritage of the city-state’s iconic shophouses with its modern urban development.

The Tanjong Pagar neighbourhood is a food hotspot, offering dining options ranging from traditional hawker fare at Maxwell and Amoy Street food centres to Michelin-recommended global cuisine along Kiong Siak Road, Telok Ayer and Duxton Hill, to name a few. The property’s location, less than 200 metres from the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station and 350 metres from the Maxwell MRT Station, will provide easy access to Singapore’s Downtown Core, Marina Bay and other districts where locals frequent for work and play.
“Avani Singapore represents a strategic market entry for Minor Hotels, and we are honoured to have our partners Kajima and Alwathba alongside us as we venture into Singapore’s hospitality sector,” commented Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International and CEO of Minor Hotels.  “Their industry expertise and market knowledge will ensure the delivery of an exceptional hotel experience, creating a vibrant base for business and leisure travellers.”

Avani Hotels & Resorts, one of Minor Hotels’ eight hotel brands, prides itself on offering stylish rooms, connected social spaces and relaxed dining designed for today’s traveller. Launched in 2011, Avani currently operates 42 hotels and resorts in 24 countries. Minor Hotels plans to expand Avani’s footprint to nearly 100 hotels and resorts by the end of 2026, with openings in Thailand, China and the Seychelles scheduled for later this year.

Accor has signed partnership renewal agreements for more than 40 hotels, comprising 5,500 keys, across Australia, underscoring the Group’s strong partnerships with some of the country’s most influential hotel owners.

Accor Pacific partners have also invested more than $450 million in hotel renovations and refurbishments since the beginning of 2022.

Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer PM&E, Adrian Williams, said: “This significant investment is a direct commitment to our brands. It is a clear and strong affirmation of our partners’ confidence and trust in the quality and value of our brands.”

Marking its 40th renewal, Accor recently solidified its partnership with Silversea Investments through a long-term franchise agreement that will see significant investment to refurbish Novotel Sydney Parramatta and Mercure Sydney Parramatta, which will be rebranded to Novotel Sydney Rosehill upon completion of the renovation. Now managed by Trilogy Hotels, the importance of these hotels will grow even further as Parramatta’s massive infrastructure development continues and the new Western Sydney Airport launches in 2026.

The Sunshine Coast’s premier five-star hotel, Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort, also recently extended their partnership with Accor for this flagship Sofitel. The resort will soon announce its renovation plans to enhance further its luxury positioning on Noosa’s prestigious Hasting Street.

Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer PM&E, Adrian Williams, said Accor’s network of more than 350 hotels in Australia had been built on the strength of the Group’s well-established relationships with international and local hotel owners.

“Accor has been operating in Australia for over 30 years now, and a feature of our outstanding relationships with owners is our commitment to ensure their hotels remain at the forefront of the market through elevated guest services, facilities and satisfaction.

“We are privileged to have many long-term owner relationships, and our team is continually working with their hotels to ensure they deliver above-market performance. While owners may initially be attracted to Accor because of the strength of our global brands, loyalty and distribution channels, the level of local on-the-ground support has been an equally powerful incentive for owners to renew partnership agreements with us.

“We recently invested in providing even more operational support for our hotels, growing the number of operational leaders based in key cities across the Pacific region so that decisions can be made more quickly and resources allocated to where they are most needed.

“We’ve developed the largest hotel management platform in the Pacific with more than 300 above property team members to help support and drive performance for over 200 managed hotels. We are the only operator to have dedicated operational teams with heads of operations based in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Launceston, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Cairns, Auckland and Fiji.”

Accor Pacific Chief Development Officer, Lindsay Leeser, said: “Separate to our managed network, we have developed the largest dedicated hotel franchise platform, with the largest franchise support team in the market, allowing us to work with franchise owners or third-party operators in a way that suits their business and investment strategies. We have over 30 years of franchising experience, and that really counts for owners operating in such a highly competitive market.”

From luxury to economy, Accor operates 19 international brands and 400+ hotels across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and French Polynesia, such as Sofitel, MGallery, Art Series, Pullman, Swissôtel, Mövenpick, Grand Mercure, Peppers, The Sebel, Mantra, Handwritten Collection, Novotel, TRIBE, Mercure, BreakFree, ibis, ibis Styles and ibis budget, as well as Ennismore’s SO/. Ennismore, the fastest-growing lifestyle and leisure hospitality company, and Alfasi Group, a design-driven property developer, are delighted to announce the signing of The Hoxton in Melbourne as part of the Matchworks Precinct located at 560 Church Street, Cremorne. Set to open in 2027, the hotel will bring The Hoxton’s imitable style to Australia for the first time, marking a huge milestone for the brand’s global growth.

The hotel will feature 198 guestrooms in the classic Hoxton categories, including Cosy, Roomy, and Biggy. Known for its vibrant, open-door lobbies, the hotel will celebrate its locality through art, design, retail and eclectic programming, with interiors taking inspiration from the building’s history and creative local community and surroundings. An inviting space for all, not just hotel guests, The Hoxton will have three exciting food and beverage outlets: an all-day dining destination, café, bar, and signature restaurant. Other features include The Apartment, the brand’s hybrid event spaces centred around a communal pantry, and a gym for those looking to continue their wellness journey in their home away from home.

Located in Melbourne’s historic Cremorne suburb, The Hoxton’s new neighbourhood is a melting pot for creativity and innovation and is a natural fit for the brand. Dotted with Victorian terraces and repurposed warehouses, it has become one of the most exciting areas in the city and is fast becoming home to some of the city’s best restaurants, wine bars and cafes. Ideally positioned on the eastern fringe of Melbourne’s CBD, The Hoxton will enjoy excellent connectivity to the wider city with easy access to Melbourne’s public transport network, major arterials and bike paths.

Sharan Pasricha, Founder & Co-CEO of Ennismore, said, “We are delighted to bring The Hoxton to Australia for the first time. As free-spirited as it is sophisticated, Melbourne has been in our sights for a long time for The Hoxton, and Cremorne is a perfect fit for the brand. Our guests and brand followers have long been asking for a Hoxton in Australia, and we’re thrilled to finally make it happen in a brilliant building steeped in history and started life as a matchstick factory. We look forward to making our guests feel at home while discovering the very best of our new neighbourhood.”

Gill Dvir, Managing Director of Alfasi Group, said: “Alfasi Group is thrilled to partner with Ennismore as the hotel operator at 560 Church Street, Cremorne. We are committed to preserving the rich history of this site while adapting its historically significant buildings for retail and hospitality uses that the community can enjoy. With its strong focus on community and neighbourhood, The Hoxton perfectly aligns with our vision for this world-class precinct.”

The Hoxton is a series of open-house hotels rooted in culture and community, located in key cities across the UK, Europe and North America. Each hotel is a reflection and extension of its neighbourhood, inspired by the diversity and originality of its surrounding streets. Vibrant, welcoming public spaces and exciting dining concepts mean every Hoxton is as much a destination for the local community as it is for guests. Today, The Hoxton operates 16 hotels, including recent openings in Charlottenburg (Berlin), Brussels, a second hotel in Amsterdam, and Vienna. The Hoxton is due to open soon in Edinburgh and Florence, and Ennismore recently announced the brand’s first signing in Scandinavia, with The Hoxton Oslo.

This exciting signing adds to Ennismore’s growing pipeline of projects in Australia, including Mondrian Hotel and Residences Gold Coast, Hyde Perth and 25hours The Olympia Sydney.

Trilogy Hotels will commence operations for Novotel Sydney Parramatta and Mercure Sydney Parramatta in early September. Both assets will continue to be branded by Accor under a franchise agreement, providing exceptional distribution capability, marketing and loyalty programs.

“The agility of having the Trilogy Hotels team run our operations has been very rewarding. We are pleased to have signed another two hotels, allowing us to connect with our guests in greater and more personalised ways,” says Frank Huang, owner and director of The Huang Family portfolio.

“We sincerely thank Frank and Wade for their continued faith in our team and model. We kickstart operations next month and look forward to helping realise the full potential of each asset,  driving bottom-line performance and efficiencies by operating the four hotels together,” says Scott Boyes, CEO of Trilogy Hotels.

Similarly, Australia’s largest privately owned hotel group, Schwartz Family Company and owner Dr Jerry Schwartz have deepened their relationship with Trilogy, signing Leura Gardens Resort as the fifth hotel within the group, following the Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains, Mercure Sydney Railway Square, Ibis Sydney World Square and Mercure Canberra.

Leura Gardens Resort is a 93-room boutique hotel nestled in the picturesque suburb of Leura – the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park and just minutes from the award-winning Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains and Leura Golf Club, also part of the Schwartz network.

The charming resort underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2023 and boasts multiple conference and events spaces and substantial recreational facilities.

The resort will remain unbranded, leveraging the already well-established Leura Gardens name. SiteMinder will provide Trilogy Hotels with a complete channel management solution, which includes taking bookings directly to the resort. In addition to this approach to distribution, Trilogy will be looking to enhance and maximise the wonderful potential of the food and beverage outlets.

Dr Jerry Schwartz, owner and director of the Schwartz Family Company, completed the acquisition of the Leura Gardens Resort last week. It is the company’s 15th hotel in Australia.

“Leura Gardens Resort remains a special place for my family with so many fond memories of holidaying there with my parents back in the 1970s,” said Dr Schwartz.

“The hotel is rich in history and atmosphere, with its famed gardens created back in the 1920s for Lady Mabel Fairfax. The gardens remain a central attraction in the resort’s four and a half acres of grounds, and we look forward to working with Trilogy to re-establish the property as a first-choice Blue Mountains hotel for couples, families, groups and conferences.”

“It is not lost on Trilogy the importance of this hotel to Jerry and his family and we will be operating the hotel with this in mind. Thank you Jerry for your confidence in Trilogy and for choosing us again to operate this homey and boutique resort,” says Scott Boyes, CEO of Trilogy Hotels.

“While we’ve only just begun operations, we have great plans in the pipeline for Leura Gardens, capitalising on the nearby Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains. We can now provide a mix of different venues and experiences across Schwartz assets in the Blue Mountains, cementing their position as a leading destination for leisure and conference guests in the region,” continues Boyes.

As independent managers, Trilogy Hotels handles all facets of hotel operations including revenue management, cost control and human resources. With bespoke services provided for each asset, best-in-market teams and staff development are a key focus for Trilogy to help unlock the maximum potential of every hotel.
