It’s proving to be a cruel summer for one plane lover in Florida, after receiving a cease and desist letter from Taylor Swift’s lawyers to stop tracking her private jet.
The letter was reportedly sent to Jack Sweeney, a student at the University of Central Florida who uses public information to post the location of private jets used by well known people, including the Grammy award winning singer.
There’s some bad blood between Sweeney and other celebrities, too. In 2022, he was suspended from X, formerly Twitter after posting the location of a jet used by Elon Musk.
Musk also threatened legal action alleging Sweeney’s “doxxing” of “real-time location info.” Musk claimed this was a “physical safety violation”.
The Washington Post reports Taylor’s lawyers have made similar claims against Sweeney including “stalking and harassing behaviour” by tracking Swift’s jets
“While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client.”
Her lawyers claim there is “no legitimate interest in or public need for this information, other than to stalk, harass, and exert dominion and control”.
“We cannot comment on any ongoing police investigation but can confirm the timing of stalkers suggests a connection,” Swift’s publicist told media.
“His posts tell you exactly when and where she would be.”
Sweeney shook off the claims, saying don’t blame me. He told the Washington Post “This information is already out there. Her team thinks they can control the world.”
Taylor Swift’s private jet will soon be making its way to Australia.
